Lucy ponders the inclusivity and exclusivity of social media, and suggests we pray for discernment to know when to use it and when to use our own hands and feet.

Do we save our comfort and companionship just for those who are easily reached on our devices? Do we neglect those who are not part of this happy digital ‘community’? So we never get round to – dare I say it – writing a letter or a card to someone who would deeply, desperately appreciate it in a world of 140 characters or less?

Penninegilly's blog caught my eye last week where she was pondering that tricky question: Why don't they come to church?

If those  of us who've despaired of ever finding a satisfactory answer were paid £1 for each time we've asked that question - we'd all be rich!

There's a tongue-in-cheek look at those things which might just put people off over here. 

I guess there'll never be any grounds for complacency - however welcoming we think our communities might be.  It's a question that we need to continue to ask ourselves.

Site makeovers 2

Another religious community that's been doing a spot of DIY on its online presence recently is the European province of  the  Society of St Francis, First Order. 

I don't know who's behind the makeover , but whoever you are, congratulations. In terms of content, simplicity,attractiveness and ease of navigation you put a good few other sites to shame.

Do any readers remember my musings on finding God in a Nice Cup of Tea?   Reading  this old post yesterday during a spot of bloggy housekeeping last night reminded me of some resouces I'd come across before Christmas and keep meaning to highlight here.

So, to the Community of St Mary The Virgin, scene of my tea drinking antics, and, a place which has  played a small but significant part in my faith journey over the last ten years or so; more notably by providing me with an (indirect) pointer towards the Society of St Francis. Hearing that they now stream their Daily Office live online, I went to check this out,  to discover not only this, but a whole lot more.  CSMV's website has had a complete makeover. If you should be lucky enough to live near any of their houses, do try and visit, but wherever you come from, do stop by at this address  .

Serially disorganised persons, read and learn!

Worried sounding text to beloved son: “R u OK? Haven’t heard from you for ages! nunX”

Even more worried response: “Who you?”

  ‘Nun’, not knowing whether reply indicates son bound, gagged and struck down  with amnesia or, as is more likely suffering from the after-effects of post-exam celebrations,  replies: ” Your mother, of course!”

  Then a thought occurs; ‘nun’ ferrets around in address book. Ooops!

When somebody changes phones it is advisable to change their details in your address book straight away,  not take the lazy way out and rely on doing all future texts on the back of their change of number notification.
